Role of art following conflict

Expert discussion on BBC's Radio 4 "Thinking Allowed"

Laurie Taylor from BBC Radio 4 talks with her guests about the role of the arts in a society’s journey to democracy. “Whils scholars of transitional justice tend to focus on the courts and the streets, this study asks how culture enables a country marked by state of oppression to both mark, as well as transcend, its past.” (BBC Radio 4 Website)

One of the speakers, Professor Bahun from the Department of Literature, Film, and Theatre Studies at University of Essex said that art can “restore the dignity of a group or individuals which is an important part of transitional justice”, thereby relating to countries such as Sierra Leone and South Africa.
